Almost 30 Podcast: The Truth Behind Unexplained Infertility + Wellness Habits That Matter

Preparing for Pregnancy Starts Before You’re Trying

I recently joined the Lindsey on the Almost 30 Podcast to talk about the way I approach preconception health. We talk specifically about how the months and years before pregnancy are an important window to support the health of both parents.

I encourage women and men to use the preconception period to look more closely at the factors that can influence reproductive health, including nutrient status, metabolic health, inflammation, environmental exposures, gut health, hormones, mitochondrial function, sleep, and stress.

This is especially important because fertility is not just about the egg. The health of both partners matters. Egg and sperm quality can both be influenced by the environment we create in the body before conception.

During our conversation, we discussed why a diagnosis of “unexplained infertility” may sometimes mean that conventional testing has not yet identified the full picture. We also talked about AMH and fertility testing, IVF, endocrine-disrupting chemicals, male fertility, birth control, testosterone, and the role everyday choices can play in supporting reproductive health.

One of the concepts I shared is the importance of moving from “trying to conceive” to “ready to conceive.” That means using the preconception window intentionally identifying potential obstacles, reducing unnecessary exposures, replenishing nutrients, and supporting the systems involved in healthy egg and sperm development before pregnancy begins.

Whether pregnancy is part of your plan in the near future or still a few years away, this conversation offers a broader perspective on what it can mean to prepare for conception with intention.
